What you need to know:

  1. As of January 1, VAT is no longer charged on Microsoft's Extended Hardware Service Plan.
  2. Extended warranties are now charged as insurance transactions, and will appear on your bill separately.

Microsoft Surface warranties are available again!

The updated German tax regulations on service contracts also mean changes for Microsoft's Extended Hardware Service Plan. VAT will no longer be charged on the sale of Microsoft Extended Hardware Service Plans in Germany, including cross-border sales.

General Warranty Information

As a given, every Surface comes with a Microsoft Limited Hardware Warranty of at least 1 year. The specifics of the limited warranty vary by country and device but generally cover–

  • Product Defects
  • Exchange Services
  • Technical Support
  • On-site Repair

An important note: the limited warranty covers flaws present in manufacturing and does not cover accidental damage.

To get the most out of your investment and keep your device working for as long as possible, you should pick an additional coverage plan that fits your needs and the expected lifespan of your Surface.

Without warranty extensions, you could be left needing additional support or device replacement without an affordable solution.

Advantages of an Extended Warranty

Service extensions go way beyond just the hardware warranty and are exclusively available for Microsoft Business devices.

Only educational institutions, government agencies, or enterprise customers can benefit from the Microsoft Extended Hardware Service Plan.  

We recommend ordering the appropriate warranty extension directly along with your leasing, financing, or purchasing contract.

But if you haven't don't worry! An extended warranty of 3, 4, or 5 years can be purchased retrospectively for up to 45 days.
